Junior college essay outline.
PARAGRAPH 1 OUTLINE OF THE DEBATE OF THE TWO STORIES.
The two stories debate with each other on the same point- namely the inability of the negro American authors to achieve success in the writing field. Hugh M. Glosters race and the negro writer and Nick Arron Fords a blue print for negro authors both deal with the same subject but with opposing points of relevance. The two authors closely try to visit the main reasons, causes and problems faced by the negro authors to put a established foot in the writing world and rub shoulders with the greats and legends of the writing world.
PARAGRAPH 2 WHY I SELECTED GLOSTERS TOPIC OVER FORDS.
I believe that Gloster is more close and true to describing the negro author. The reason being he visits the miseries and technicalities of the negro authors. His idea is to not only criticize the negro authors for their inability to achieve success beyond a limited level but to analyze the reasons for their miserable plight. On the other hand , his counterpart ford tried to create a different point about the failure of the negro writers. But he fails to explain the reason why they have been having a tough time in the literature world. He only succeeds in finding the limitations of the negro writers without looking for the reasons. Gloster is more kind towards the negro writers fraternity as he delineates the causes and reasons why the negro writers have failed and also explains that it is no fault of their own , but the circumstances , that have put them into a world of low success.
PARAGRAPH 3 PICK A SIDE.
The reasons given by Gloster are genuine and he explains why the Negros faced the heat from the writing world. Some points , of ford , though , are irrelevant as his is just a fault finding story where he only criticizes the Negros for improper selection of material, characters and themes, and puts that as the main mistake of them.
PARAGRAPH 4 WHY I AGREE WITH GLOSTER MORE THAN FORD. AND MAIN IDEA OF GLOSTER
According to Gloster, the main reason for the inability of Negros to write anything apart from their own self and their own stories has been the fact that they have seen a lot. Racial issues, sufferings, the ills of slavery, and abuse of the Negros due to their black color , by the white population has forced the negro to concentrate writing pieces of such distress , triumph and matters related to their own lives. Thus a negro writer could never go beyond a certain level and subject in his writing. The sufferings and ill treatments have killed the philosopher in the negro writer and has made him incapable to write new ideologies. His writings have not been able to surpass a level beyond the negro world as the point from he sees , he can only find the pity condition of hus fellow mates. Also certain critics have influenced and guided the negro writer to put more effort in writing the diversities, differences and miseries of his class as it may bring out his best work. Gloster mentions that a negro writer has been seen as a artistic piece of his black colored class.
PARAGRAPH 5 MAIN IDEA OF FORD
Ford, on the other side mentions that even though the negro writers looked promising, yet they were never able to find their best and always produced and in the second half of the 20th century there have been so many confused voices raised that the negro writer has failed almost completely. Ford maintains that in about two centuries , the negro writers have never been able to attain any craftsmanship or status expected from them. Their drama skills have had nothing to write home about, yet the only satisfying performance is there expert writings in fiction. Its not just the lack of theme but the inability to find great matter is a big reason for their weakness in writing great pieces. He says that negro writers have failed mainly because the conversations they created was weak, their characters were not up to the mark , and the scenes they created were equally weak and lacked excitement of terror and pity. I completely disagree with this view as i go with Gloster method as the negro writer has not been failing with his own mistakes but he has reasons that make him to create such pieces that do not look appealing.
PARAGRAPH 6 POINTS OF SIMILARITY AND DIFFERENCES OF THE AUTHORS .
Even though the two authors agree on one fact that the entire negro caste has not failed to give a few greats , both agree that there have been some fine writers who graced the writing world.
PARAGRAPH 7
According to Gloster whatever the negro authors have written has been out from their own world and its not at all weak or uninteresting but limited to a little confinement . Whereas ford makes a irrelevant point that the writings have been poor. Also Gloster comes in support of the negro writer stating that it has been circumstances responsible in making the negro writers choose what they did and not a fault of their own. Ford does not agree.
PARAGRAPH 8
Whatever Ford sees is that negro writers have failed . He cannot find any suitable reason for that unlike Gloster, which is a bit too harsh on the negro writing community. According to ford, the negro writers are complete failure, baring a few. He completely dislikes the style, content, characters, scenes of the negro writers. He has no sympathy about what has happened with their community in America. He does not realize what stuff they have undergone with the lights of discrimination , slavery, poor treatment , etc.
PARAGRAPH 9
Where Gloster finds the reasons why the Negros have not been able to rise upon a certain level in writing, he cites the various reasons that have kept them interested only in their own world describing their hardships, victories, etc. Faced from the white Americans, ford is only citing mistakes. Gloster does not go on to finding detailed mistakes of the writers. The treatment given to negro writers by the two authors is the most highlighted difference between the two. Gloster likes the work the work of the Negros and has faith in their work , but ford has little to respect in the negro literature. According to ford , the miseries that has taken place in the lives of the Negros and what has been shown in their writings is of no use and very poor form of literature. Even though he sees promise in the initial writers of the negro class, he feels disappoints with the new writers of the negro community blaming them for getting confused and supplying weak scripts of literature.
PARAGRAPH 10
Gloster takes us into the world of the negro community where he finds how badly they were treated , so much so , that their writers had so much to write about their own content , that they did not shift to other topics. That is the biggest difference between the writing of the two authors-Gloster and Ford.
PARAGRAPH 11
Ford finds lack of craftsmanship in the content of the negro writers. According to him describing miseries , pain, glorious moments etc. does not qualify as good craftsmanship of literature. He believes a lot has to be desired from the negro writers.
